This Year's Passion Breaks Couples Up. Next Year's Builds Them.

If your relationship has been one long argument since February, I have news you're not going to expect.

The fire that caused it isn't going anywhere. Next year is a fire year too. Same heat. Same passion. And it is about to do the exact opposite of what it did to you this year.

I'm the Firepig. In over 35 years of doing readings, I've watched a lot of years hand over to the next one. This handover is unusual, and most people are going to read it wrong. They'll see "another fire year" on the calendar and brace for twelve more months of the same. They'd be bracing for the wrong thing.

We have about a quarter of the Fire Horse year left. Then, on February 6, 2027, the Fire Sheep takes over. Let me show you why the same fire is about to change direction, and what that means for you whether you're with someone or not.

Same Fire, Opposite Animal

Start with what doesn't change.

2026 is a fire year, and the Horse is a fire sign. 2027 is a fire year, and the Sheep is a fire sign too. That makes next year a double fire year, just like this one. The passion carries straight over. Nobody is getting a cool, quiet year off.

What changes is the animal, and the animal decides where the fire goes.

The Sheep is the Yin to the Horse's Yang. The Horse is the male sign. The Sheep is the female sign. On paper they're partners. In practice they push the same fire in opposite directions.

The Horse is about independence. A little adventure. And leaving. When the Horse stops getting satisfaction from something, it doesn't stay to fix it. It goes. Not always immediately, but soon.

The Sheep is about making relationships, fostering them, staying in them and strengthening them. Relationships matter to the Sheep. I wouldn't call it needy or clingy, but you get the idea. It's the exact opposite of the Horse.

So here's the whole year in one line: the Horse's passion is anti-relationship. The Sheep's passion is pro-relationship.

What the Horse's Fire Has Been Doing to You

Be honest about this year.

In the Fire Horse year, passion has mostly shown up the wrong way. Arguments. Breakups. Stress. Two people who used to get along suddenly not getting along. Relationships are more likely to break up this year, and not because people stopped caring. Because of too much passion.

That's the part nobody expects. We think of passion as the good stuff, the glue. In a Horse year, too much of it pushes people apart. The flow of the year favors arguments, and in a lot of homes it has favored broken relationships.

There are exceptions. A few relationships this year are absolutely fantastic, and if you're in one of them, you know it. But they're the few. The majority of relationships have struggled in 2026.

This year, passion has been a wrecking ball. Next year, the same passion becomes a builder.

If you've been in the majority, here's the thing I want you to hear before you make any big decision about your love life: the heat you've been living in was the year talking. Some of it was you, sure. Some of it was your partner. But a lot of it was a Horse that wanted out of everything that didn't satisfy it, right now.

A word to the wise: don't make a permanent decision based on a temporary animal.

What the Sheep Does With the Same Fire

Now turn the page to 2027.

Next year the passion goes to deeper love and deeper relationships. I'm not saying there won't be heated arguments. There's still a lot of fire in the room. But the flow favors deepening relationships, where this year it favored breaking them.

That's the whole difference. Same intensity, pointed at building instead of leaving. Next year's passion is likely to be a lot more constructive than this year's. This year's passion could actually be destructive for relationships. Next year's could be the best thing that ever happened to yours.

And there's a flip side you should know about now. This year may have been better for making money than for relationships. Next year flips that too: the odds are better for good, improved, impassioned relationships, and worse for business. I'll get into the money side on Wednesday. Today is about love.

If You're in a Relationship

It's time to move it up a level.

If you've been thinking about going from dating to being engaged, or from engaged to getting married, 2027 is a good year to work on it and give it your all. The Sheep wants to strengthen what you have. Let it.

That doesn't mean ignoring what this year did. If you and your partner made it through the Fire Horse, you have something real. You've been tested by the most anti-relationship year in the cycle, and you're still standing. That's not nothing. That's a foundation.

So use the Sheep's flow. Have the conversation you've been putting off. Make the commitment you've been circling. Tend the garden while the weather is on your side.

If You're Single

The worst thing you can do next year is sit on the sidelines.

Take advantage of it. Get out there. Make yourself available. Meet people. If you're single, the Sheep year should bring you some good opportunities.

But here's the catch, and it's the same catch every year: it's going to require some effort. Nothing comes automatic, even when the flow is in your favor. The Sheep opens the door. You still have to walk through it.

If the Horse year left you burned, I understand the urge to stay home and wait it out. Don't. The year that rewards staying is not the year to stay home.

Don't Drag the Horse Into the Sheep Year

You have about a quarter of this year left, and how you spend it matters.

If your relationship is in a rough patch right now, notice how much of the heat is the year and how much is the two of you. The Horse's fire wants you to leave. Before you do, ask yourself whether you'd still want to leave in a year that rewards staying. Sometimes the answer is yes, and that's fine. Often it isn't.

If you're single and you've been telling yourself you're done with all of it, give yourself permission to be done with the Horse year, not with love.

The passion you've been fighting this year is coming with you into 2027. The question is whether you let it keep burning things down, or let it build.
