This is the introduction to my new book called The Accidental Astrologer. I would love to get your opinion on the content. Is this something you would be excited to read?

An Astrologer thinking about lifes challenging decisions.

I never would have dreamed that while participating in a military exercise at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, I was about to embark on my journey to becoming an acclaimed Astrologer. My first encounter with Chinese astrology was on a placemat in a Chinese restaurant near the Base. It offered just a few words about each zodiac sign, yet those simple descriptions resonated deeply with me. I recognized not only myself in those brief sentences but also the personalities of friends born under different signs. That chance encounter sparked a curiosity that would eventually transform into a four-decade journey of discovery and guidance.

The Challenge of Decision-Making

Life is filled with crossroads—moments when we must choose a direction without clearly seeing the path ahead. Perhaps you're facing such a decision now. The complexity can be overwhelming: relationships intertwine with career choices, financial considerations clash with emotional needs, and the weight of uncertainty presses down upon your shoulders.

Many of us become trapped in limited perspectives when making decisions. We fixate on one or two factors while overlooking others that might offer valuable insight. Emotions cloud our judgment, fear narrows our vision, and we lose sight of what truly matters to us. In these moments, clarity seems impossibly distant.

An Astrologer's Framework for Finding Your Way

There is hope. Throughout human history, we've developed frameworks to navigate life's complexities. The approach I share in these pages draws from ancient wisdom but speaks to modern challenges. It invites you to examine your situation from multiple angles—not just the obvious ones—and discover solutions you might otherwise miss.

This framework isn't about predicting an unchangeable fate. Rather, it's about illuminating the roads before you and helping you choose with greater awareness and purpose. Like a prism revealing hidden colors in ordinary light, it breaks down complex situations into elements you can understand and address with confidence.

A Confluence of Experiences

My approach to guidance has been shaped by three distinct streams in my life. As an educator with a bachelor's degree in secondary education, I learned how to communicate complex ideas with clarity and empathy. My two master's degrees in political science and international relations from USC's Annenberg School—with professors from Cambridge and the London School of Economics—and two years of PhD coursework at Georgetown University equipped me to analyze situations from diverse cultural and theoretical perspectives.

My service as an Air Force Intelligence officer with top-secret clearance taught me how to read between the lines, discern hidden patterns, and understand human motivation at profound levels. These skills proved invaluable when I began studying Chinese astrology nearly four decades ago.

For ten years, I served as the highest-rated Chinese astrology expert on the New York Times' AllExperts.com platform. Later, Astrology.com—the world's leading astrology website—selected me as their Chinese astrologer for five years. Throughout this journey, I've performed thousands of readings, helping people navigate their most challenging life decisions with greater wisdom and confidence.

Why This Book, Why Now

While personal readings bring me great satisfaction, they reach only a limited audience. This book allows me to share these insights with a broader community of seekers. Unlike a reading, which might fade from memory, these pages offer a permanent resource you can revisit whenever life presents new challenges.

Additionally, recent advances in technology have made it possible to combine ancient wisdom with modern analytical tools, creating more comprehensive guidance systems. This convergence of tradition and innovation represents an exciting frontier in personal development—one that I'm eager to explore with you.

How to Use This Book

This book is organized like a Mahjong card spread, with each chapter representing a different position in the reading:

  • The Center: Your core issue or question

  • The East: Matters concerning you personally

  • The South: Short-term impacts and results

  • The West: Potential challenges and obstacles

  • The Best Approach: Suggested paths forward

  • The North: Long-term outcomes and legacies

You can approach this book in two ways. Read it from beginning to end to understand the complete framework through my experiences and stories. Alternatively, after reading this introduction, you might prefer to jump to the appendix for a practical overview, then dive deeper into specific chapters that address your current concerns.

An Invitation to Journey Together

When I conclude a reading, I always remind my clients that our conversation marks not an ending but a beginning. The true work lies ahead—in reflection, in action, in the daily choices that gradually shape a life of greater harmony and purpose.

I extend the same invitation to you now. This book is not merely a collection of insights but a companion for your journey. Like water flowing over stones, life's challenges can either wear you down or polish you to a beautiful shine—the difference often lies in how you approach them.

As we explore these ancient wisdoms together, my hope is that you'll discover not just answers to your immediate questions, but a deeper understanding of yourself and your place in the grand cycles of existence. The path to wisdom begins with a single step—I'm honored to walk beside you as you take it.
